Preeti Dadve was on her way to Nallasopara to see her doctor as Wednesday was her due date. She was travelling in the ladies second class, with her mother, Jayashree. She went into labour pains as the train neared Naigaon.

Two female home-guards and a lady constable attended to Preeti. By the time the local doctor, Rajesh Patil, arrived the baby had already been delivered. Patil helped Preeti with the post-natal procedures. Preeti and the new-born were then taken to the primary health centre at Manikpur, Vasai (W). Preeti also has a daughter.
